These very cute coasters are made by a Palestinian woman from Bethlehem. They are sold in a set of 4. The design on these little plates resemble the patterns on the very popular kufiya. They are perfect for serving small biscuits, nuts, olives etc.

The kufiya is a traditional headdress worn by Palestinian men. Therefore it was adopted by farmers, wearing it to protect themselves from the high desert sun, heat, and windswept sand and dust. Also it is fashionably to wear it as a scarf around your neck. The meaning of the different patterns on the kufiya can be seen below.
