Jeries Facouseh is a well-known master carver and life long resident of the little town of Bethlehem. Due to his intricate carving techniques, his sculptures are highly sought after in the world. This sculpture is based on a biblical scene. According the story in John’s gospel Jesus takes the role of the servant and washes his disciples’ feet.
“Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet,” he tells them (John 13:14), proclaiming humility and service as key features of the Christian life.
