Description
This scene from the Christmas story is carved from locally sourced olive wood by a well-known master carver, Jeries Facouseh. Jeries Facouseh is a life long resident of Bethlehem and a second generation Christian carver whose intricate sculptures are sought after in the Holy Land.
The carving recalls the fact that the Christ Child, like many Palestinians today, was a refugee, having to escape with his family to a safe place (Matthew 2: 13-15). One of the sites in Bethlehem is the “Milk Grotto” where the holy family is said to have hidden as they were escaping from King Herod, who had ordered all baby boys in Bethlehem to be slaughtered.
Note: Due to the nature of olive wood and the individuality of the artisans and their processes, the product may differ slightly from the picture posted.
