This lovely statue is from the Christmas story. The scene is crafted by a well known master carver, Series Facouseh who lives in Bethlehem. Also it is carved from locally sourced olive wood.
The carving recalls the fact that the Christ Child, like many Palestinians today, was a refugee. They had to flee from King Herod who ordered the execution of all male children two years old and under (Matthew 2: 13-18). Therefore this is a highly sought after item.
