The Star of Bethlehem, or Christmas Star, appears only in the nativity story of the Gospel of Matthew. It depicts the story where the wise men from the East were inspired by the star to travel to Bethlehem. As a result they found the Messiah in a manger. Therefore, it is a world wide tradition to include the star with other Christmas decorations.
