This is a smaller nativity scene handmade by Bethlehem artistans, using locally-sourced olive wood and colourful stone. The simple carving shows the infant Jesus in the manger, with Mary and Joseph.

In Isaiah 11:1-2 we read about the “rod from the stem of Jesse, the Branch growing from his roots”. This vision of the Messiah comes to mind when you look at this nativity scene carved into an olive branch.
Also the olive tree is a biblical symbol of promise (Genesis 8:11) and is universally considered to be a symbol of peace. What an appropriate nativity scene for our Prince of Peace, born in Bethlehem!
